When I was young I was very healthy, so healthy that I hardly even got a cold. But, as I get older my body started to show various issues like bloated stomach, heart burn, headache, constipation, skin problem, joint pain and low energy. About 10 years ago I also started having a heart palpitation problem – my heart will all of a sudden race hard as if I was sprinting, for hours. It was really scary – I felt like my heart was going to stop, and I would get exhausted afterwards. At one point, it got so bad that I had to visit emergency room 6 times in one year. I went to see many specialists and had all kinds of tests done, but the test results always came back normal and doctors didn’t know what was wrong. On top of that, I got a very painful disease called Trigeminal Neuralgia last year, which is a severe nerve pain on the face. This was a serious pain – I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t talk, I couldn’t smile, I could not even sneeze, blink eyes, yawn, or turn my head. People often call it “Suicide Pain”, and I could see why. Again, other than prescribing pain killers, there was nothing that the doctors could do to make the pain go away.

As I was going through the crisis, I felt really down. Not only was it painful, but it was depressing not knowing if this will ever end. It was then that I started looking for an answer in natural way. As I researched and studied through many books and publications, I learned that God made each person in His unique way for His purpose, and therefore, each person has unique genetic makeup and different way of reacting to environment and food. This also means certain food is good for some people but not for others. For example, I discovered that capsaicin and caffeine would trigger my heart palpitation problem. Also the medications that I took for palpitation depleted certain nutrients like vitamin B12, and it led to another disease like Trigeminal Neuralgia.

I read a lot of books and medical research papers and decided to write a food journal. I wanted to know more about my body – what kind of food is good for me and what kind is not. I also learned that often times how to cook food is more important than what food to eat. Eating proper food that is prepared in the right way of cooking helped me get better gradually. Today, the pain I had on my face is completely gone. I was also able to address all the other issues I used to have. I still have the heart palpitation condition but I am able to avoid it.

Through Firstfruit Kitchen, I would like to share my experience on how I got better by changing what I eat and how I cook. I know there are so many people out there who are suffering various diseases and issues, and I want to tell them about the possible way to get healthy by changing their lifestyle.
